          Astrid Lindgren, a Swedish children's writer, was born in She spent her childhood on a farm in a peasant family.

          After finishing school, she worked for a local newspaper and then moved to Stockholm and enrolled in a secretarial school. On December 4, , she gave birth to her son Lars. Astrid Erickson got married five years later, taking her husband's surname, Lindgren.
